
Carlos Santiago — VP, Head of Americas, GSK
Carlos began his career in GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as a Site Utilities Engineer at their Manufacturing facility in Cidra, Puerto Rico. With more than twelve years at GSK, he held several roles of increasing responsibility in both their Global Manufacturing & Supply (GMS) and Worldwide Real Estate and Facilities (WREF) organizations. Some of these roles include: Utilities Manager, GMS Clifton; Packaging Operations Manager, GMS Clifton; Site Operations Director, WREF Research Triangle Park; and Global Lead Engineering Infrastructure, WREF.
During his time in GSK Carlos also led the Hispanic/Latino Employee Network (“Conexion Latina”) for 3 years doubling its membership and participation in that period. Under his leadership, Conexion Latina was recognized by Diversity Best Practices at their Above and Beyond Awards in June 2018 for their work and impact on hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
In 2018 he left GSK to join Merck as an Executive Director and Chief of Staff for the Global Workplace and Enterprise Services Leadership Team. During his time in Merck he was responsible for developing, managing and executing the organization's strategy and portfolio of strategic initiatives. He also led efforts in the creation and integration of GWES Digital Strategy, managed Real Estate & Facilities Operations in Latin America, as well as provided strategic oversight and leadership for Technology & Innovation, Capital Management, Energy & Sustainability and Maintenance Excellence CoE’s.
After 18 months with Merck Carlos returned to GSK as VP, Head of Americas for the Worldwide Real Estate & Facilities organization. As Head of Americas, Carlos and his team have responsibility for R&D and Commercial footprint for the region. As part of the transformation GSK is going through ahead of its Consumer business separation Carlos is working on portfolio optimization and what the future of the workplace will look like.
His different roles and experiences have allowed him to work in many locations within the Americas as well as travel to more than 30 countries in 4 continents.
Carlos is a member of CoreNet and is part of the CoRE Tech Advisory Board. He is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Universidad del Turabo. When he is not working, he enjoys reading, traveling and running. Carlos is married to Lourdes and has three children; Noah (18), Gabriella (11) and Carlos Jr. (8).
